  53. Native GUS support in MPS's X-Com is _really_ poor. Supposedly, a patch 
  54. is being worked on, but that's been mentioned by Microbugs, er, Prose, since
  55. last summer. I wouldn't hold your breath.

  82. I had the same problem with jumpy or skipping digital voices in Hell.
  83. So did my girlfriend who has the same card. My workaround: well, I have 
  84. an SB compatible soundcard, and I use that for the digital FX. As for 
  85. music, I run MEGAEM with the -SBOFF option.

  98. I have been very happy with my GUS (especially now that games are supporting
  99. it natively). Recently though, after system changes, MIDI-IN stopped working
  100. from Windows.

  102. I have a 512k GUS (quite an early version) and I have built the MIDI
  103. connector as described in these digests yonks ago.
  104.  
  105. Everything (including MIDI-IN) used to work perfectly on my old system:
  106.   DOS 5, Windows 3.1
  107.   386sx-16 2Mb
  108.   V2.05 of GUS disks.
  109.  
  110. Recently I bought a new system:
  111.   Viglen PCI P66 8Mb Stealth64
  112.   Dos 6.2, Windows 3.11
  113.   V3.56 of GUS disks (ftp'd in november)
  114.  
  115. All gus functions (wav and midi) appear to work perfectly from both DOS and
  116. Windows except MIDI-IN which does nothing.
  117.  
  118. However I suspect that I can reject hardware/connector/wiring failure as if I
  119. use the midifier.exe, MIDI-IN works OK.
  120.  
  121. So if MIDI-IN works under DOS, why would it fail under Windows?
  122.  
  123. MIDI-OUT works under Windows.

  125. I have tried removing 3.56 of GUS software and installing the original 2.05
  126. instead, but this makes no difference!

  128. I have the gus configured as 220,6,6,11,5 and I have entered these details
  129. into the ICU (intel configuration utility) plag and play wotsit.
  130. The control panel settings for the gravis midi port drivers alse
  131. appear to be correct.

  154. For XCOM, I use maxsbos and it sounds great!  I select soundblaster for 
  155. both sound effects and music.  I can't run XCOM with maxsbos and emm386 
  156. at the same time or else my machine just reboots.  Other than that it 
  157. works great.
